WATERFALL SERIES 2003-2004

Catherine L. Johnson

Fear and desire:
the force of nature and passion
when the catapult to fall must occur so as to FLY!

X

The paintings mark the revelation of a precipitous, urgent and forever turning point.

X

Breaking through the fortress and dam of fear
and marks the eternal moment
when the life force of love and desire eclipses fear.

X

The moment when the head long plummet
discovers the soaring wings of integrity.

X

This series was painted in the same blue found in sacred paintings in mosques.

X

The blue was painted rapidly and was cascaded onto sheer gold or silver paper
capturing the released energy of the heart chakra.

Please note:
The ROWINGINEDEN series is very subtle with a sheer silver luminosity and a lush spectrum of indigo
that cannot be disclosed in a digital photograph.
As all my work, my art needs an actual encounter for its revelation.
The series is an improvisational riff inspired by Emily Dickinson’s metaphoric, coded and fervently erotic poem:
Wild Nights,Wild Nights.

Wild nights-Wild nights! (269)

X

Wild nights – Wild nights!

Were I with thee

Wild nights should be

Our luxury!

 X

Futile – the winds –

To a Heart in port –

Done with the Compass –

Done with the Chart!

 X

Rowing in Eden –

Ah – the Sea!

Might I but moor – Tonight –

In thee!

Emily Dickinson (1830–86)

Please note: my work needs an actual encounter to experience the art.
My art offers a wide spectrum of a dynamic experience and subtle PRESENCE that a camera’s eye denies.
My art is a dance, an intimate pas-de-deux, that unfolds in time
with the viewer/beholder’s attention and participation.
