George Orwell’s

1984

Is Suddenly

a Best-Seller!

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/25/books/1984-george-orwell-donald-trump.html?emc=edit_th_20170126&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=49110186&_r=0

X

X

George Orwell’s classic book “1984,” about a dystopian future where critical thought is suppressed under a totalitarian regime, has seen a surge in sales this month, rising to the top of the Amazon best-seller list in the United States and leading its publisher to have tens of thousands of new copies printed.

X

Craig Burke, the publicity director at Penguin USA, said that the publisher had ordered 75,000 new copies of the book this week and that it was considering another reprint.

X

“We’ve seen a big bump in sales,” Mr. Burke said. He added that the rise “started over the weekend and hit hyperactive” on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Since Friday, the book has reached a 9,500 percent increase in sales, he said.

X

He said demand began to lift on Sunday, shortly after the interview Kellyanne Conway, an adviser to Donald J. Trump, gave on “Meet the Press.”

X

In defending a false claim by the White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, that Mr. Trump had attracted the “largest audience ever to witness an inauguration,” Ms. Conway used a turn of phrase that struck some observers as similar to the dystopian world of “1984.”

X

When asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” why Mr. Spicer had said something that was provably false, Ms. Conway replied airily, “Don’t be so dramatic.”

X

Mr. Spicer, she said, “gave alternative facts.”

X

In the novel, the term “newspeak” refers to language in which independent thought, or “unorthodox” political ideas, have been eliminated. “Doublethink” is defined as “reality control.”

X

On social media and elsewhere on Sunday, the book’s readers made a connection between Ms. Conway’s comments and Orwell’s language, and the attention on the book “kind of took a life of its own,” Mr. Burke said.

X

The dictionary publisher Merriam-Webster described the interview as “fraught with epistemological tension.” The dictionary also reported that searches for the word “fact” spiked after Ms. Conway’s comments, and then, as an apparent reminder, tweeted the dictionary’s definition.

X

Even outside the United States, interest in “1984” has grown. So far this year, sales have risen by 20 percent in Britain and Australia compared to the same period a year ago, according to Jess Harrison, a London-based editor at Penguin Books. The novel is usually a best-seller, she said, and it sold 100,000 copies last year in English-speaking countries outside the United States and Canada. “But we’ve definitely seen an uplift” in sales, she added.

X

Dystopian novels are “chiming with people,” Ms. Harrison said, adding that “The Man in The High Castle” by Philip Dick, an alternative history in which the Nazis defeated America to win World War II, is also selling well. A television series based on Mr. Dick’s novel is now in its second season at Amazon.

X

Penguin also published Sinclair Lewis’s “It Can’t Happen Here,” about the rise of a demagogue, last Friday in Britain for the first time since 1935, “and we’re already on to our third printing.”

X

On Wednesday, that book was also ranking among Amazon’s best sellers, as was Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World,” another dystopian classic.

X

Prof. Stefan Collini, a professor of intellectual history and an expert on Orwell at the University of Cambridge, said that readers see a natural parallel between the book and the way Mr. Trump and his staff have distorted facts.

X

“Everyone remembers ‘1984’ as containing various parodies of official distortions,” he said.

X

“That kind of unreality that is propagated as reality is what people feel reminded of, and that’s why they keep coming back.”

Exhibition Dates:

Friday-Sunday, noon-6pm and by appointment.

X

THE GENESIS:

This exhibition was conceived in conversation between Kristen and Kate a few days after the U.S. Presidential Election. With the intention of providing a reason, space, and context for artists to respond to the current circumstance, they agreed to set a show in motion, and allow the call to take on a life of its own. Word spread between artists and within a short time, the number of participants rose from 50 to 150. The current list of participating artists is included below.

X

X
THE SHOUT OUT:

“If you choose to make a work that addresses things internal, or external, or some state in-between, that is up to you. Make what you need to make in whatever form, and at whatever pitch you choose.”

(Excerpt from the call to participate.)

X

If we stop to comprehend the “unrealistic” endeavors that we pursue, we would never do them. This show has been a leap of faith and a truly collaborative endeavor.

X

X

Lauren Barnes and Shanekia McIntosh are organizing the opening day of performances, talks, and events. Carrie Schneider is managing new media submissions. Courtney Childress, Sheree Hovespain, Eleanor King, Gina Magid, Carleen Sheehan, Elise Siegel, and Ana Wolovick are providing drop-off locations for participating artists. Lilah Friedland is managing the collection of works in collaboration with our staff. Many participating artists have personally shipped their work to the gallery and offered their time and resources.

X

X

A portion of all sales will be donated to the local factions of

Planned Parenthood and Black Lives Matter.

In the wake of Donald Trump’s election,
many groups in the U.S.,
including African Americans; refugees;
Mexicans and of Mexican descent;
differently-abled; Muslims
and
women,
are feeling scared and uneasy.
So while protests rage on across the country,
one movement is using a simple yet powerful symbol
to show their support for anyone who is fearful of
what is to come.

THE

2016 AMERICAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION BALLOTS

SERIES

X
X

The 2016 Presidential election revealed TWOTWO Americas.

X

The Republican candidate, a renown bully, went rogue from  his party’s decorum.

X

Bullies “smell” vulnerability.

X

The Republican candidate became
the voice piece and the “parasite”
of

white male laborers*

and
the  once dominant and now obsolete
white patriarchal social structure/institution
of

White Male Privilege.

X

* Please note the % of women who voted

for the Republican candidate.

Refer to the Pew Research link  embedded below.

X

My experience, primary research,
of the structure/dynamic marriages
of white male laborers  is a rigid,
paradoxical and circumscribed  system.

X

The  husband/man rules the household
and
the wife/woman  is obedient to the scripted gender roles.
Yet, paradoxically, she is the  fierce protector of his ego.
She excuses his threats,
locker room banter
and
emotional abuse as his right.
She does not hold him accountable for his  abuses nor excess.
She denies the potentially deleterious/ fatal
effect of his behavior on her and the family.
She prides herself on “standing by her man”.
His behavior is deemed as “normal”
– HER man being a MAN.

 It is “normal”.

It is a validated role-play that previous generations have modeled.
It is a template of security that life is predictable
and
is predicated on the practice
of a LOYALTY/ NO MATTER  WHAT template.

Change is feared and held at bay.

X

Of course, not all households are defined by real or the threat of domestic violence.
Domestic violence is not contained by any one socio-economic class.
Domestic violence occurs in relationships of rigid dominance/submissive roles
where the submissive is not deemed as worthy by the dominant
and, in turn, the  submissive is subject to the dominant’s verbal/physical rage.

X

The only risk is when this LOYALTY template
is questioned by the wife/woman- the submissive.

X

I spoke to thousands of households in a RED state for the Clinton campaign.

X

The Republican candidate’s rhetoric was the daily language
experienced and lived with in these households.
There was NO practice of  dialogue, negotiation or conversation.
The marriages were based on a patriarchal- dominant/submissive- system.

PERIOD.

X

The most prevalent response from a RED state
woman voter ( 30 + years of age):

“I need to take this call in the other room!”

In a whisper she tells me:

” I am voting for Hillary Clinton.

I CAN’T tell anyone!

can’t tell my friends,

I can’t tell my family

and I, certainly, can’t tell my husband!!!”

X

The above is WHY  I state
the REACTIONARY REVOLT
was rooted and fueled by

WHITE MALE LABORERS.

X

The majority of  wives/women stood by their man
and voted on how he voted
and/or
how he told her who to vote for

PERIOD.

X

The Republican candidate exploited their fears
and inability to articulate
their seething anger + resentment
of being held in contempt, scorned and parodied
by contemporaneous American society + media.

X

They were coined/labeled as the candidate’s “deplorables”.
They embraced the label
and
were emboldened by its communal/tribal nomenclature.
A team.
A front.
A  social/political movement.

X

The Republican candidate went beyond,
off the charts of protocol,
of what is tolerated in common speak
in his vitriol of specific demographics of America.

X

His base was exponentially galvanized/electrified
at his UNFILTERED, loose cannon delivery.

X

The Republican candidate’s fanatical support base
“dug in their heels’
nothing would sway them to be objective
and
analyze the actual toxic ingredients of his character.

X

The Republican candidate became their needed “BIG DADDY”
who wore kevlar
and
was immune/vaccinated
to be held accountable
to his hate, xenophobia and fear-mongering.

X

He became  the swiveling hips “rock-star”
of  a specific demographic of white men
– a  social phenom that wasn’t detected
on the radar
because it was without a lexicon.

X

The  “clinging to fear and guns”
(quoting Obama during his first primary debates)
 was their battle cry!

X

The Republican candidate became a parasite on them
and they fed off each other.
However, in a “host/parasite” relationship,
the “parasite” is  ALWAYS the winner.

X

His supporters came out in droves
– many registered to vote for the first time
in their adult lives.

X

The Republican candidate  possesses
no real world crisis experience
nor empathy of the “lives of others”.

X

His  life story and his existence has been
a hermetically-sealed experience
defined by managing/manipulating/editing
public perceptions.

X

He is a celebrity- a virtual media creation.

X

He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
A proud tradition/ legacy of working class is NOT his story.

X

He is no enlightened Buddha.

X

The Republican candidate “smelled” HIS opportunity to win
in THEIR despair of eventual extinction.

X

He did NOT offer adaptations/ innovative solutions
to his support base to adjust
to the realities of their socio-economic lives.

X

The Republican candidate seized their despair
of their extinction
due to a rapidly changing world
of inclusivity and diversity.

X

He seized their fear of extinction
and loss of identity
rooted to corporate America’s capitalism
– on-going practice of doing business
in a global economy driven by profit margins
where the concept of indispensable workers
and their pensions plans
is not a factor in the economic matrix.

X

The Republican candidate’s behavior
– past and present-
was excused; rationalized; justified
and/or
blamed on others
by his blind faith supporters.

X

Behind Trump’s victory:

Divisions by race, gender, education

http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/11/09/behind-trumps-victory-divisions-by-race-gender-education/

X

X

ALL of the above, of course,
The President-elect’s campaign
echoed Germany’s 1938
and
the rise of Hitler.

X

The Germans’ identity was decimated
by the definition of WW I’s post-war Treaty of Versailles.

X

Hitler was declared a buffoon by the media of the time.

X

Similar to America’s present  day reality:
Hitler was mesmerized by his ascent
as is the President-elect
of the United States of America.

X

Ultimately,
Hitler’s rise/ reign revealed
it was a fulfillment of his misaligned personal hubris
and
not a vision of  binding/ healing/ resolving
the German’s
psychological injuries of being decimated
by a post-WWI changed world.

X

Hitler and his cabinet of drones
did the unthinkable to humanity
in his lust for grandeur.
His need to specify AUTHENTIC Germans,
and manufacture an Aryan race,
destroyed
and
murdered millions of lives
to fulfill his  own mesmerizing vision
of his own reflected psychopathic narcissism.

X

Hitler seized/ used the nation’s brokenness and rage
and Hitler, as the “parasite”,
plummeted,  scourged and descended
the German nation and Germans
into Hilter’s  own hell/ Sieg Heil.*

X

*(Hail, my leader!), or “Sieg Heil!” (Hail victory!).
It was adopted in the 1930s by the Nazi Party to signal obedience to the party’s leader,
Adolf Hitler, and to glorify the German nation (and later the German war effort).

X

X

Yes,

the candidate

who a citizen BELIEVES in,

supports + votes for

changes/alters

the nation’s and the world’s

trajectory + future.

Garrison Keillor is a revered American icon of Americana and its virtues.
He was PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION.

X

His recent post-election Washington Post Op-Ed,
 unknowingly,
reveals the WHY of the seething anger and resentment
of white male laborers
by his adjective Over-The-Top contemptuous
description of  “THEM”.
“Them” = the President-elect’s host and support base.
Keillor’s editorial is  SNAP/synapse to explain/understand
WHY there was a REACTIONARY REVOLUTION.

X

When a WE v THEY duality is set up,
the THEY are the scorned/mocked/ less than
in this dominance/ submission dualistic equation.

X

And, when THEY cannot fight back in words,
THEY will in action.
THEY did.
THEY voted.

X

The THEY’s  REACTIONARY REVOLT is now the world’s.

X

When another is psychologically injured,
it is NOT advised to pour salt
into their psychic/lacerated wounds.

X

The WE did NOT listen.

X

Listening and a dialogue heals.
Call and response.

X

 The sublime universality of Gospel,
the Blues and improvisational sonics
are all based on listening
– which is the path of light moving forward.

X

The WE’s did NOT listen to the THEY’S suppressed rage and pain.
The THEY voted: YOU ARE NOT ME!!!

X
X
X
X

Please note the disdain, the mockery,
the contempt of the THEY in Keillor’s Op-Ed.
THAT is the WHY of the 2016 Presidential Election:
the WE are WHY.
One shared reality exposed by Keillor:
WE/THEY are  BOTH sucker-punched by this President-Elect.

X

This is NOT Lake Woebegone.
The woe has  just begun.
We cannot drown.

X

We, as America and Americans, will  float, swim and RISE.
WE/THEY will listen: call and response and a  NEW lexicon of our shared humanity will take shape.

X

I am still picking up ALL my teeth from the sidewalk.
I called a RED state for Clinton- 4 hours each night,
I heard the drum roll and smelled the funereal pyre
of a demographic that was going Jurassic
– and, their anger was spit palpable.

Opinions

Trump voters will not like what happens next

9 November 2016- the DAY after.
Garrison Keillor is an author and radio personality.

X

X

So he won. The nation takes a deep breath. Raw ego and proud illiteracy have won out, and a severely learning-disabled man with a real character problem will be president. We are so exhausted from thinking about this election, millions of people will take up leaf-raking and garage cleaning with intense pleasure. We liberal elitists are wrecks. The Trumpers had a whale of a good time, waving their signs, jeering at the media, beating up protesters, chanting “Lock her up” — we elitists just stood and clapped. Nobody chanted “Stronger Together.” It just doesn’t chant.

X

X

The Trumpers never expected their guy to actually win the thing, and that’s their problem now. They wanted only to whoop and yell, boo at the H-word, wear profane T-shirts, maybe grab a crotch or two, jump in the RV with a couple of six-packs and go out and shoot some spotted owls. It was pleasure enough for them just to know that they were driving us wild with dismay — by “us,” I mean librarians, children’s authors, yoga practitioners, Unitarians, bird-watchers, people who make their own pasta, opera-goers, the grammar police, people who keep books on their shelves, that bunch. The Trumpers exulted in knowing we were tearing our hair out. They had our number, like a bratty kid who knows exactly how to make you grit your teeth and froth at the mouth.

X

X

Alas for the Trump voters, the disasters he will bring on this country will fall more heavily on them than anyone else. The uneducated white males who elected him are the vulnerable ones, and they will not like what happens next.

X

X

To all the patronizing B.S. we’ve read about Trump expressing the white working-class’s displacement and loss of the American Dream, I say, “Feh!” — go put your head under cold water. Resentment is no excuse for bald-faced stupidity. America is still the land where the waitress’s kids can grow up to become physicists and novelists and pediatricians, but it helps a lot if the waitress and her husband encourage good habits and the ambition to use your God-given talents and the kids aren’t plugged into electronics day and night. Whooping it up for the candidate of cruelty and ignorance does less than nothing for your kids.

X

X

We liberal elitists are now completely in the clear. The government is in Republican hands. Let them deal with him. Democrats can spend four years raising heirloom tomatoes, meditating, reading Jane Austen, traveling around the country, tasting artisan beers, and let the Republicans build the wall and carry on the trade war with China and deport the undocumented and deal with opioids, and we Democrats can go for a long , brisk walk and smell the roses.

X

X

I like Republicans. I used to spend Sunday afternoons with a bunch of them, drinking Scotch and soda and trying to care about NFL football. It was fun. I tried to think like them. (Life is what you make it. People are people. When the going gets tough, tough noogies.) But I came back to liberal elitism.

X

X

Don’t be cruel. Elvis said it, and it’s true. We all experienced cruelty back in our playground days — boys who beat up on the timid, girls who made fun of the homely and naive — and most of us, to our shame, went along with it, afraid to defend the victims lest we become one of them. But by your 20s, you should be done with cruelty. Mr. Trump was the cruelest candidate since George Wallace. How he won on fear and bile is for political pathologists to study. The country is already tired of his noise, even his own voters. He is likely to become the most intensely disliked president since Herbert Hoover. His children will carry the burden of his name. He will never be happy in his own skin. But the damage he will do to our country — who knows? His supporters voted for change, and boy, are they going to get it.

X

X

Back to real life. I went up to my home town the other day and ran into my gym teacher, Stan Nelson, looking good at 96. He commanded a landing craft at Normandy on June 6, 1944, and never said a word about it back then, just made us do chin-ups whether we wanted to or not. I saw my biology teacher Lyle Bradley, a Marine pilot in the Korean War, still going bird-watching in his 90s. I was not a good student then, but I am studying both of them now. They have seen it all and are still optimistic. The past year of politics has taught us absolutely nothing. Zilch. Zero. Nada. The future is scary. Let the uneducated have their day. I am now going to pay more attention to teachers.

Thank YOU for your comment on my t-shirt!

X

I created it with bleach on a black t-shirt!
Perfect metaphor of THIS election!

X

The monster DUCK/Trump scourged y/our America
with calling OUT:
hate/ bigotry/bullying/ insults/racist/ sexist/
entitled/ WHITE MALE PRIVILEGE/ limbic brain fear
buried in the  savage cellar of human nature.

X

Trump’s campaign

became/was the black night

of our nation’s

soul.

X

This election showed the underbelly of our nation.
The monster DUCK/ Trump became the voice piece of the cellar
of the lowest common denominator of the animal kingdom:
predatory/ alpha social hierarchy

– the definition of the culture of

WHITE MALE PRIVILEGE.

X

The decisions + process of creating the NASTY WOMAN t-shirt:
Bleach has the capability to lift stains.
The metaphor of lifting the dank, dirty,
dark cellar of hate/ bigotry/ self-centered DIRT
that was revealed to our nation and to the world!

X

The mirror of the underbelly of our nation was exposed to the WORLD.
The world was appalled, stunned, shuddered
– the LIGHT of America dimmed to 40 watts NOT the shining LIGHT of HOPE.

X

“When he went LOW,

we went HIGH!”

–  FLOTUS Michelle Obama

X

I made t-shirts for Obama campaign in 2008 with bleach pens on black t-shirts.
Barack + Michelle each have one!

X

The t-shirts looked like necklaces,
circles- representing the O of hOpe and the circle represents LIFE/LOVE,
encircling around the neckline and throughout the front + back.

Harry Belafonte:

What Do We Have to Lose?

Everything!

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/07/opinion/campaign-stops/harry-belafonte-what-do-we-have-to-lose-everything.html?_r=0
By HARRY BELAFONTE
NOV. 7, 2016 / New York Times

X

X

“O, yes,

I say it plain,

America never was America to me,

And yet I swear this oath —

America will be!”

— Langston Hughes,

“Let America Be America Again”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langston_Hughes

X

X

What old men know is that everything can change. Langston Hughes wrote these lines when I was 8 years old, in the very different America of 1935.

X

It was an America where the life of a black person didn’t count for much. Where women were still second-class citizens, where Jews and other ethnic whites were looked on with suspicion, and immigrants were kept out almost completely unless they came from certain approved countries in Northern Europe. Where gay people dared not speak the name of their love, and where “passing” — as white, as a WASP, as heterosexual, as something, anything else that fit in with what America was supposed to be — was a commonplace, with all of the self-abasement and the shame that entailed.

X

It was an America still ruled, at its base, by violence. Where lynchings, and especially the threat of lynchings, were used to keep minorities away from the ballot box and in their place. Where companies amassed arsenals of weapons for goons to use against their own employees and recruited the police and National Guardsmen to help them if these private corporate armies proved insufficient. Where destitute veterans of World War I were driven from the streets of Washington with tear gas and bayonets, after they went to our nation’s capital to ask for the money they were owed.

X

Much of that was how America had always been. We changed it, many of us, through some of the proudest struggles of our history. It wasn’t easy, and sometimes it wasn’t pretty, but we did it, together. We won voting rights for all. We ended Jim Crow, and we pushed open the Golden Door again to welcome immigrants. We achieved full rights for women, and fought to let people of all genders and sexual orientations stand in the light. And if we have not yet created the America that Langston Hughes swore will be — “The land that never has been yet” — if there is still much to be done, at least we have advanced our standards of humanity, hope and decency to places where many people never thought we could reach.

X

What old men know, too, is that all that is gained can be lost. Lost just as the liberation that the Civil War and Emancipation brought was squandered after Reconstruction, by a white America grown morally weary, or bent on revenge. Lost as the gains of our labor unions have been for decades now, pushed back until so many of us stand alone in the workplace, before unfettered corporate power. Lost as the vote is being lost by legislative chicanery. Lost as so many powerful interests would have us lose the benefits of the social welfare state, privatize Social Security, and annihilate Obamacare altogether.

X

If he wins this Tuesday, Donald J. Trump would be, at 70, the oldest president ever elected. But there is much about Mr. Trump that is always young, and not in a good way. There is something permanently feckless and immature in the man. It can be seen in how he mangles virtually the same words that Langston Hughes used.

X

When Hughes writes, in the first two lines of his poem, “Let America be America again/ Let it be the dream it used to be,” he acknowledges that America is primarily a dream, a hope, an aspiration, that may never be fully attainable, but that spurs us to be better, to be larger. He follows this with the repeated counterpoint, “America never was America to me,” and through the rest of this remarkable poem he alternates between the oppressed and the wronged of America, and the great dreams that they have for their country, that can never be extinguished.

X

Mr. Trump, who is not a poet, either in his late-night tweets or on the speaker’s stump, sees American greatness as some heavy, dead thing that we must reacquire. Like a bar of gold, perhaps, or a bank vault, or one of the lifeless, anonymous buildings he loves to put up. It is a simplistic notion, reducing all the complexity of the American experience to a vague greatness, and his prescription for the future is just as undefined, a promise that we will return to “winning” without ever spelling out what we will win — save for the exclusion of “others,” the reduction of women to sexual tally points, the re-closeting of so many of us.

X

With his simple, mean, boy’s heart, Mr. Trump wants us to follow him blind into a restoration that is not possible and could not be endured if it were. Many of his followers acknowledge that (“He may get us all killed”) but want to have someone in the White House who will really “blow things up.”

X

What old men know is that things blown up — customs, folkways, social compacts, human bodies — cannot so easily be put right. What Langston Hughes so yearned for when he asked that America be America again was the realization of an age-old people’s struggle, not the vaporous fantasies of a petty tyrant. Mr. Trump asks us what we have to lose, and we must answer, only the dream, only everything.

I was tapped the morning after CLINTON was named the nominee at the DNC.

X

I was FOR/WITH OBAMA campaign from the genesis of his campaign to the completion.
It was a WATERFALL- a precipitous force that started with an invisible/off the radar movement that gathered purposeful force…
Once OBAMA was nominated, I was working with Jonathan Roynane @ the 927 Selby Ave satellite.
I was called THE CLOSER – anointed @ the primaries!
The moment when OBAMA won was the most LUMINOUS/ OVERWHELMING experience in my life.
ALL we could do was cry in/with JOY!!!!
NO words.
Jonathan was placed in OMAHA by the Clinton campaign.
He called me to re-ignite our successful teamwork.

X

I made thousands of calls for the CLINTON CAMPAIGN into the RED state of Nebraska.

X

Entering  thousands of homes/ personal spheres of American citizens via phone.
I spoke with UNDECIDEDS; women saying they MUST take THIS call in another room- telling we in a whisper:
“I am voting for Hillary Clinton. I cannot tell my friends, family and certainly NOT my husband!’;
created squads of volunteers ( Friend squads/ Mother+ Daughter squads/ Family squads,etc.)
to knock on doors ( canvassing) and/or make calls from the two HC/OMAHA satellite offices.

X

Every night, from 5-9p, I fired up my phone + made calls to the voters of OMAHA + Nebraska!
I, as other thousands of other Americans, stepped up and participated in y/our democracy
that defines the process of America!
My work was completed last Friday.

Volunteer.
Civic responsibility.

Democracy in America

A win for Hillary Clinton

The first presidential debate

X
X

 Trump alternately bullied; boasted;

dithered; rambled and lied.

Trump loves the “deal’:

leveraging/conniving

for his personal gain/credit

– for and ALL about Trump.

“It’s business!” he exclaimed.

Trump hopelessly lacks a moral compass-

necessary for a world leader.

X

X

Clinton was consistent:

prepared; wry- not scolding; coherent;

steered; danced and stung.

X

X

CLINTON stood UP as PRESIDENTIAL.

CLINTON exemplified+ testified

to her capacity/experience

as a skilled/balanced

COLLABORATOR/ IMPROVISER/ NEGOTIATOR

critical characteristics at the solemn + swiftly changing

WORLD table

in a crisis.

Words matter when you run for president. And they really matter when you are president. And I want to reassure our allies in Japan and South Korea and elsewhere that we have mutual-defence treaties and we will honour them.
It is essential that America’s word be good. And so I know that this campaign has caused some questioning and worries on the part of many leaders across the globe. I’ve talked with a number of them. But I want to—on behalf of myself, and I think on behalf of a majority of the American people, say that, you know, our word is good.

PERIOD.

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican counterpart Donald Trump faced off in the first presidential debate of 2016 at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Right from the start, the two dived directly into attacks. They engaged in testy exchanges over trade, the U.S. economy, race and foreign policy. It seems Clinton may have got the better of Trump, with sixty-two percent of viewers in a CNN/ORC poll saying the former secretary of state won.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 27 (UPI) — Zach Galifianakis is against having Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on his awkward Funny or Die talkshow, Between Two Ferns.

“No. That doesn’t interest me,” the comedian said during an interview with The Los Angles Times after he was asked if Trump’s campaign was interested in appearing on the show after his opponent Hillary Clinton did to much fanfare.

“Doing it the other way doesn’t interest me. He’s the kind of guy who likes attention — bad attention or good attention. So you’re dealing with a psychosis there that’s a little weird,” Galifianakis continued.

“I wouldn’t have somebody on that’s so mentally challenged. I feel like I’d be taking advantage of him. And you can print that.”

Galifianakis also shared how he felt Clinton had a good sense of humor during her appearance and was game for the type of off-putting questions he normally presents during the show.

“I was very impressed with her,” he said. “I walked away from that whole interview going, ‘She’s cool.’ I thought she was cool, and I don’t know if that was my impression of her before that.”

Galifianakis has also had President Obama appear on Between Two Ferns in 2014 in order to get young people to sign up health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
