The RED SEA CROSSINGS: Blood Memoirs diptych was made of layers and layers of buried color-sheets and cloaks of radiant gold over seas of rich deep reds.

The work is both an ephemeral and alternating encounter-revealing and veiling, as the viewer and the light source shifts in relation to the work.
X
The viewing is an experience of time unfolding and resonating with the immediacy of a drawing and the ancient luminosity of Mideval and Pre-Renaissance Italian painting. Encounter dialogue.

Cut lungs and gashed hearts. The fierce struggle/battle to BREATHE + LISTEN to one’s heart with honor/respect/love of one’s God given gift: LIFE.

To endure the dark night of the soul and harvest the liberating truth, the beauty, of the journey and cross over to the land of milk and honey as the harvest of LIGHTLOVEHOPE.

The HEARTFIRE series is comprised of several paintings in various dimensions.

The HEARTFIRE series reveals itself upon various light conditions an in relation to the viewer. Like all my paintings, it is never one painting. Encounter dialogue.

Radiance.
X
The curtain parts, and/or, the intensity of the radiant light penetrates and transcends all hindrances.
X
The work is made of veils of crimson and scarlet reds. The gold was laid down by wall paper brushes and then washed over with the reds, and then the red was washed away- this process was repeated over and over again until the moment when the gold crested and was unlocked.

My painting is a dance and a sound. My work unfolds in time and in dialogue with the viewer. The viewer is not a passive spectator, but a participant- a dancer.

The Heartfire series is a continuous series which began in 1998 through 2005, and exists in various formats and dimensions.

PLEASE NOTE:
My gallery at the time, REFUSED to exhibit the RED SEA CROSSINGS: Blood Memoirs I and II 1995 paintings. They stated the work was too POWERFUL and too provocative for the Midwest – and, especially. too much for the Twin Cities.
My art tells the truth. My art calls OUT the truth from the deepest, most hidden chambers of the heart and marrow.

Sarah Peterson, co-owner of Kyatchi with her brother Sam, viewed the RED SEA CROSSINGS: Blood Memoirs I and II 1995 on-line. She selected these works along with HEARTFIRE 1998 and Pine Tree: HOPE 2005 to honor and celebrate the opening of Kyatchi’s new St. Paul location in December 2017.
