Two Wolves Within

the legend

One evening,

in the shifting light of the campfire,

an elder Cherokee told

a beloved grandchild

the legend of the

Two Wolves Within

– a fable of the

the internal and a continuous

battle

that occurs

within

each man and woman.

The grandparent said,

“My child, the battle is between two “wolves” inside us all.

One is Evil.

“It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance,

self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies,

false pride, superiority,

and

ego.”

One is Good.

“It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility,

kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity,

truth, compassion

and

faith.”

The attentive and precocious grandchild

thought about what was told

–  and, then asked their grandparent:

“Which wolf wins?”

“The one you feed.”
